Cartwheel receives Best Practices Award from UNESCO

For the program on “Early Childhood and Elementary Education for Indigenous Learners” of the Higaonon community in Sinakungan, Agusan del Sur, the Education for International Understanding (EIU) Best Practices Award was given to Bricks Sintaon, education coordinator of Cartwheel Foundation, Inc.

Representatives from UNESCO-Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) Wonjin Lim and Yeonwoo Lee from Korea visited the Cartwheel office on December 1, 2014 to meet with the program team and learn more about the education innovations practiced within the Sinakungan community.

With this recognition, Cartwheel acknowledges the many others who have come together for the past five years in successfully bringing culturally-relevant education to Higaonon young learners. Without the impassioned dedication of the community leaders and members, teachers, community organizers, local implementing partners, funding partners, programs consultant, and various other supporters — none of this would be possible.
